Education For Life. . .
Faith For Living.
Mrs. Shackleton is a graduate of the University of Michigan with a major in political science and a minor in communications. While working at Lake Superior State University she earned an additional bachelor’s degree in history. She was also in the education program before taking time off to raise her family.
Mrs. Shackleton’s time at St. Mary’s spans more than 20 years. First as a parent, then as the school librarian, world language teacher, and, for the past five years, as second grade teacher. An avid student herself,
Mrs. Shackleton is continually pursuing online, in-person, and independent learning in all areas of education. She has had training in Singapore math, reading comprehension, phonics, and IEW writing to name a few.
The friendly, caring atmosphere at St. Mary’s is Mrs. Shackleton’s favorite aspect of the school. Staff and students genuinely care about each other and treat each other with respect and kindness. This translates into a calm learning environment where students can grow and learn. It is also embodied in one of Mrs. Shackleton’s favorite verses - Your care for others is the measure of your greatness (Luke 9:48). It is a verse which was part of a handwriting lesson one year and was often quoted by students (and herself) throughout the year.
Mrs. Shackleton and her husband, Scott, have two sons. Henry and John are both graduates of St. Mary’s Catholic School. Both boys graduated from Sault High and completed their undergraduate degrees at MIT. Henry is currently pursuing a PhD in physics at Harvard. John is a software engineer for Audible - a division of Amazon. St. Mary’s provided each with a strong academic foundation along with a solid moral, ethical, and spiritual formation.
When not at school, Mrs. Shackleton can be found with her nose in a good book, enjoying the outdoors, or trying to out-play her husband in a game of cribbage. They both enjoy traveling, especially to historic Boston to visit Henry and John.
